No, I don't have texinfmt.el in /that/ directory.
I do have texinfmt.el in /usr/share/emacs/21.3/lisp/textmodes/ though,
(defvar texinfmt-version "2.38 of 3 July 1998")
TeX-add-style-hook appears to be defined in
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/auctex/tex.el which stems from auctex 11.11.
I am using SuSE Linux 8.1 and installed Emacs 21.3 into the system paths
