Thanks for your time and input,
I use a fairly recent version of emacs-w3m (1.4.463+0.20120113-1,
packaged by debian), but I am still on emacs 23.3 and its version of
gnus. Your remarks made me test again with current emacs-snapshot
(GNU Emacs 24.0.93.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.2.3)
of 2012-02-16 on zelenka, modified by Debian)
and everything seems to work OOTB.
That should do; considering how many people are already on 24, I should
probably jump in, too :).
