tries to get certificates even when using w3m-view-url-with-external-browser

M runs the command w3m-view-url-with-external-browser
It is bound to M.

OK, but why does it still ask me

   unable to get local issuer certificate: accept? (y or n)

if it intends to pass the URL to the external browser? Shouldn't the
external browser handle that?

You see I run WWWOFFLE in emacs but not in Firefox.
