ざっと，ChangeLog を斜め読みしただけなんですが．
Highlights of emacs-w3m-1.4 are:
* w3m-0.5 is supported.
* Many bug fixes.
* Contents filtering layer is installed.
* w3m-mode frames and buffers are treated more consistently.
* Essential configuration to use emacs-w3m is simplified.
* User option `w3m-add-referer-regexps' has been succeeded by
`w3m-add-referer'.
* Cooperate with transient-mark-mode in w3m-mode buffers.
* Improved caching of contents.
* Icons for the tool bar are renewaled.
* Update many shimbun modules, including RSS-based modules.
