失礼しました。そうでしたね。ちゃんと読んでませんでした。
でも、改めて読み返してみて、

...の失敗が他と違う反応なのはちょっと妙な気がしました。

あと、ぜんぜん根拠無し/経験無しですが、ipv6 のfeature が入っていますが、
そのあたりでなにか考えられないかなぁ。
shell 環境で何かLD_PRELOAD してるものがあるとか。

M-x shell でw3m を起動してみたり
M-x shell-command で w3m -dump_head してみたり
でなにかわかったりするかも？
