Slowness in reading GNUS nnshimbun+cnet:* sites

I'm a new user to emacs-w3m, but longtime CVS Emacs-22.X/gnus 5.11
user. I just installed the CVS emacs-w3m & FLIM/APEL packages last
week in order to take advantage of the the shimbun features (very
nice!)

I've noticed that fetching cnet:* site articles in the GNUS *Group*
buffer (e.g. nnshimbun+cnet:news) is *very* slow, i.e. an order of
magnitude slower than when visiting http://news.com.com via a M-x w3m
buffer or in Mozilla Firefox. (I am visiting different pages, to
eliminate caching as a cause).

Also, of all the supported shimbun sites I've tried, the cnet sites
(e.g. nnshimbun+cnet:news & nnshimbun+cnet:personal technology) are
the slowest to fetch by a large margin. I see many, many URLs
displayed in the minibuffer, including many with doubleclick and adlog
in their name).

Q. Why is fetching nnshimbun:cnet:news so slow? Is it because of the
   advertisements?

Q. Is there a way to speed up the reading of shimbun+cnet:* groups?

Q. For debug purposes, is there a configuration variable to make all
the URLs scrolling in the minibuffer visible in a buffer, e.g. when
   visiting nnshimbun+cnet:news ?

Thank you,
Andy Scott
