Font/warning, need someting for jis x 0208 1978

Dear Emacs-w3m team,

W3m in installed and works when I browse the emacs-w3m website.
However, when I use it to render one specific email in gnus I get

(1) (font/warning) Unable to instantiate font for face default,
charset japanese-jisx0208-1978

Pressing space again renders the email fine except for the two kanji
in the signature.

I'm using XEmacs 21.4 (patch 19) "Constant Variable" [Lucid]
(i386-pc-solaris2.8, Mule) of Thu Feb  9 2006 on thor

And my default face is set with XResource as

Emacs.default.attributeFont: -xos4-terminus-medium-r-normal--14-140-72-72-c-80-*

Apart from creating jis x 0208 characters for the terminus font, is
there something I can do to "fix this?"
