I'm not a w3m developer, but that sounds like a bug.  Is this freezing
reproducible with one problematic session?  Or does it even happen for
certain sites, even when you open them independently from sessions?

Maybe you can post a correlating entry from your "~/.w3m/.sessions" when
that contains no private stuff?
