というわけで実施しました。現在の nnshimbun.el を Gnus の lisp/
ディレクトリに放り込んで make install すれば、そのまま使えるはず
です。
それから gnus-clfns.el に `find-cl-run-time-functions' という開
発者用のコマンドを作りました。以下は elmo-lunafy 枝の Wanderlust
で使ってみた結果です。:-p

/some/where/wanderlust/wl/wl-thread.el
  280 -   283: last
  532 -   659: last
 1227 -  1270: last

これの意味は wl-thread.el の 280行目から 283行目までのどこかと他
にも二個所で `last' という関数が使われており、Wanderlust を Mule
2.3 で使う場合は run-time でも `cl' が必須であるということです。

このように `find-cl-run-time-functions' は、標準では Mule 2.3 以
上で cl run-time functions を必要とするかどうかを調べるものです
が、prefix arg を付けて

C-u M-x find-cl-run-time-functions

とすると現在稼働中の Emacs における cl run-time functions の検出
を行ないます。ですから最近の Emacsen では `last' は検出されませ
ん。
なお T-gnus でこのコマンドを使うとかなりたくさん検出されますが、
それらはすべて gnus-clfns.el で定義している compiler macro が別
のものに置き換えてしまうので、普通に make install した T-gnus で
は run-time cl を必要としません。
