mysterious file-error

I use "XEmacs 21.4 (patch 13) \"Rational FORTRAN\" [Lucid]
(i586-pc-win32) of Sun May 25 2003 on TSUNAMI", emacs-w3m.1.4.4, and
w3m "version w3m/0.5.1, options
lang=en,m17n,image,color,ansi-color,mouse,menu,cookie,ssl,ssl-verify,
external-uri-loader,w3mmailer,nntp,alarm,mark" on a windows xp box.
For a short period, before switching to emacs, and finally to xemacs,
I have been playing around with the pspad editor http://www.pspad.com/
I have installed the apel library as advised on the website
(ftp://ftp.m17n.org/pub/mule/apel/apel-10.6.tar.gz):
`load-path' is a simple built-in variable.
Value: (... "d:\\lisp\\xemacs\\apel-10.6" ...
"d:\\ap\\XEmacs\\xemacs-packages\\lisp\\apel\\" ... )
I have installed http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/gifsicle.exe and
http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/ungifsicle.exe
When I view a web page and hit T or click the images icon, emacs-w3m
starts looking for D:\\ap\\pspad\\convert which is an existing
directory name, but not a program. I have no clue why it is looking
for this pspad thing.
I searched the registry, ~/.xemacs/init.el. ~/.xemacs/custom.el, the
~/.w3m directory, the w3m configuration file, I turned this damned box
upside down, but I can not find where it is defined that this thing
has to be looked for.
I switched debug-on-error on, and really hope that following info will
help you guys to pinpoint my problem:
Debugger entered--Lisp error: (file-error "Searching for program" "No
such file or directory" "d:\\ap\\pspad\\convert")
