I found another weird problem related to U+FFFD.

When viewing a UTF-8 encoded web-page which contains U+FFFD somewhere
using emacs-w3m running under XEmacs 21.5.x, everything after the
point where U+FFFD occurs is garbled. See

Such web-pages are displayed fine when using emacs-w3m running under
GNU Emacs.
