Hello Katsumi, Tatsuya and list,
Thank you both for your help.
I installed the development version of emacs-w3m from the tarball.
This got rid of the warnings about 'oldstyle backquotes' on emacs
startup, but the same error message,

is returned when using the command
> > "emacspeak-webutils-play-media-at-point
I'll persist, and let you know how I get on. This command worked
under ubuntu hardy, so I suppose I need to determine whether the newer
versions of emacs, emacspeak, or w3m are the problem.
